Authorities have identified the victim in Saturday's fatal Downtown shooting and announced the arrest of the alleged shooter.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, 17-year-old Isaiah Velasquez of Jersey City was gunned down at approximately 8 p.m. in the area of 16th Street and Coles Street.

According to one report, Velasquez was shot in the stomach. Velasquez was pronounced dead approximately an hour later at Jersey City Medical Center.

The official “Cause and Manner of Death” are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Isaiah McCord, 22, of Bayonne, was arrested yesterday at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

According to sources, the Velasquez was part of an informal group known as the ‘Wilkinson Kids.’ For years, say residents, the group terrorized the residents of Wilkinson Avenue in Greenville.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
