A man has been been arrested and charged in connection with a 2021 shooting that left a 22-year-old Jersey City man dead.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Tybear Miles, 28, of Jersey City was arrested yesterday in South Carolina for his role in the shooting death of Ahmad McPherson.

The shooting took place on June 5, 2021, shortly before 10:05 p.m., when the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots fired in the area of Stegman Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

Responding officers found McPherson with gunshot wounds to the torso. He was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, and was pronounced dead a short time later. The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.

Miles is charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

He was arrested in Spartanburg, South Carolina, by the Spartanburg Police Department in coordination with the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is currently being detained at the Spartanburg County Detention Center as a Fugitive from Justice pending extradition to New Jersey.
