A 46-year-old man has been convicted in connection with the 2018 fatal stabbing of a woman in Bergen-Lafayette.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday a jury convicted Ishmeal Coleman of all charges in the stabbing death of Takeela Wilson, 38, in Jersey City on August 12, 2018.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. that day, the Jersey City Police Department received a
report of an injured woman at 391 Forrest Street. There, responding officers found an unresponsive woman – later identified as Takeela Wilson, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to the torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a stab wound of the chest and the manner of death to be homicide.

Coleman was found guilty of Murder; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. The verdict was delivered before Judge John A. Young, following a multi-week trial.

The state was represented by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana.

Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for May 16.
