The second phase of the Port Authority’s station modernization project will begin on Saturday, preventing New York City bound trains from stopping at the Grove St. PATH station every weekend until July.

From 6 a.m. Saturday, April 6, to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April. 7, and on most weekends through approximately Sunday, June 30, World Trade Center-bound and Hoboken/33 St.-bound PATH trains will bypass the Grove St. station.

These weekend bypasses are scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Saturdays and end at 11:59 p.m. Sundays. During this time, Journal Square-bound and Newark-Penn Station-bound trains will continue to make stops at Grove St. Weekday service will not be affected.

Riders whose trips begin or end at Grove St. should plan for additional travel time to accommodate service changes in the affected direction as follows:

For World Trade Center-bound or Hoboken/33 St.-bound service from Grove St: Customers can take a Journal Square-bound or Newark-Penn Station-bound train to Journal Square and transfer to a World Trade Center-bound or 33 St.-bound train. Alternatively, customers can begin their trip at nearby Exchange Pl. or Newport stations.

For service from Newark-Penn Station, Harrison, or Journal Square to Grove St.: From Newark-Penn Station and Harrison, customers can take a World Trade Center-bound train to Exchange Pl., and transfer to a Newark-Penn Station-bound train to ride back to Grove St. From Journal Square, customers can either take a Hoboken/33 St.-bound train to Newport and transfer to a Journal-Square-bound train to ride back to Grove St., or take a World Trade Center-bound train to Exchange Pl. and transfer to a Newark-Penn Station-bound train to ride back to Grove St.

An on-call shuttle will be made available for disabled and limited mobility customers for the duration of the project, available at all times while the station bypass is in effect. The shuttle will run between Journal Square, Grove St., Newport, and Exchange Place stations. Customers requesting shuttle service can call 703-297-7135. Pick up/drop off locations are:

· Journal Square: Kiss ‘N’ Ride area off Summit Avenue

· Grove St.: corner of Columbus Drive and Grove Street

· Exchange Place: corner of Montgomery and Hudson streets

· Newport: Washington Boulevard in front of station

Shuttles will be available within 10 to 20 minutes of a customer’s request. More information on shuttle operations will be available on the PATH website.

The station rehabilitation project includes replacing floor tiles, patching and repainting throughout the station, refinishing platform columns, and installing LED lighting along with 4.7 miles of electrical wiring in the station. This work is part of the Port Authority’s overall efforts to renew and modernize the 116-year-old PATH system.
